This course delivers the practical skills to design, develop, build and test a web-based software application.
The content aims to develop your abilities and proficiency in the most relevant and sought-after coding languages and tools for frontend and backend development.
You will learn industry-ready skills to take up roles across software/web application developer, full-stack/front-end/back-end developer, QA engineer or Software support engineers.
You do not need prior coding experience.
What is covered?
User-Centric Frontend Development
This unit aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills needed to build a front end web application. It includes understanding the principles of responsive design, documentation and effective layout of content.
Interactive Frontend Development
This unit aims to develop the knowledge and skills needed to build a dynamic, interactive Frontend web application. It includes understanding user input and control when interacting with a web application. It also includes understanding the principles of manual testing for debugging.
Data-Centric Development
This focuses on understanding and developing the practical skills to build a Back End web application. Topics covered include data storage and data management using relational and non-relational databases.
Full Stack Frameworks with Django
Learners build on their existing skills and learn how to integrate them effectively to build a Full Stack web application. The unit covers the use of frameworks, APIs, automated testing, persistent storage, user authentication and eCommerce functionality.

You will be assessed through four projects which cover different aspects of web application development. Each milestone project is designed to build knowledge and skills for the key stages of building a fully-functioning web application using a full-stack framework. These projects form a portfolio which showcases learners’ practical skills, knowledge and competency to employers.
The work is marked internally by University Centre Peterborough and then verified externally by Gateway Qualifications. All units are marked Pass, Merit or Distinction.

The cost of the course is £5,421, and it is fully fundable through the Advanced Learner Loan mechanism.
Advanced Learner Loans supports the cost of your course fees are available to the following students:
- Learners aged 19 to 23 who already hold a full Level 3 qualification
- Learners aged 24 and over
Students taking out an Advanced Learner Loan may also be eligible for support towards equipment, uniform, transport costs and some childcare funding through the Learner Support Fund.
