Mike Phelan headlines degree Sports Conference


The annual Sports Coaching and Physical Education Conference at University Centre Peterborough takes place on Thursday 17 May 2018.  The event will be headlined by Mike Phelan who was Assistant Manager to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United Football Club.  Mike will be a guest speaker and delivering football coaching masterclasses to students.

Mike Phelan has a wealth of coaching experience working with international players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney.  As Head Coach and Assistant Manager at Manchester United his honours include FA Premier League Champions for six seasons, an FA Cup Winner, Football League Cup Winner and European Champions League Winner.

Students on the BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Physical Education degree at University Centre Peterborough will be joined by over 60 students from local colleges and sixth forms including Peterborough Regional College and Nene Park Academy. 

All students will participate in the coaching masterclasses, then the college and sixth form students will take part in a series of sports research workshops and poster presentations led by students and staff from the university centre. Leading researcher, David Horrocks from Sensible Soccer will also deliver a guest lecture on Sports Psychology.

This will give college and sixth form students an insight into studying at degree level as well inspiring them on the courses they are currently studying.

The BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Physical Education degree at University Centre Peterborough provides excellent career opportunities in the sports coaching industry by working with local sports clubs and schools.

The Sports Conference has been supported by Take Your Place which helps young people across East Anglia to make informed choices about their futures.
