UCP Announce The Winners Of The 2022 Literary Competition

University Centre Peterborough are pleased to announce the winners of the UCP Literary Competition!

The competition was open to both KS4 pupils in Peterborough as well as the public, with categories in Poetry and Flash Fiction. The competition was organised and administrated by undergraduate student Kat Beeton, and judged by course leader and author Andrew McDonnell.

Andrew said, “It has been an absolute pleasure to read the work submitted for the competition, and all work had merit. There was however some that stood out as highly original and engaged me in ways that were new and thrilling. It was a honour to read all the creative writing submitted to the competition.”

The winners are:

Poetry:

First place: Annie Whyman – Jack Hunt

Second place: Jennifer Rae-Clarke – University Centre Peterborough

Flash Fiction:

First place: Parminder Summon 

Second place: Sophie Dore - Thomas Deacon Academy

KS4:

First place: Marija Bogdane – Thomas Clarkson Academy

Second place: Rosie Lane – Abbey College, Ramsey

The winners of the Flash and Poetry categories will each receive £100 for first place and £50 for second place, with £50 in book tokens for the winning KS4 entry.

The English Literature with Creative Writing degree is a three-year programme and more information can be found here:  https://www.ucp.ac.uk/a-z-courses/social-sciences/ba-hons-english-literature-with-creative-writing-20/ From September 2022, UCP will be offering a Malcolm Bradbury scholarship of £7,500 split across the three years of study for residents of PE postcodes to promote literature and literacy in the region.
