English and Journalism Students Launch True Voices: A Peterborough Anthology
This week University Centre Peterborough students and our community, with the support of Peterborough City Council, launched a stunning collection of poetry, prose and more with True Voices: A Peterborough Anthology.
‘True Voices’ is a collection of poetry, prose, life-writing, and script writing` from writers with connections to Peterborough, providing a unique perspective of our local community.
It has been compiled, edited and typeset by Creative Writing and Journalism students at University Centre Peterborough.
Dr Andrew McDonnell, Curriculum Leader for English said,
‘In their final year, students are given the opportunity to produce a book. We teach students how to use indesign and photoshop to create an anthology either of their own writing or, like we are doing this year, an Anthology of Peterborough.
It’s amazing what our students have gone on to achieve and we support them all the way and encourage them to make that leap into something incredible’
Jen Ramm, Journalism student at University Centre Peterborough said,
I was inspired to be part of this anthology because I am really inspired by the arts scene in Peterborough and I work with a lot of art organisations. I love writing and poetry and I found it really inspiring that a lot of people came together to collaborate on something like this.
To be involved with making the front cover and designing the book was a massive privilege seeing it all come together. We had a local artist design the map image that you see and I played around using InDesign and Photoshop using the university’s colours.
The launch took place at Peterborough Museum on Monday 11th November. Compèred Compered my GCSE English Tutor and former University Centre Peterborough English graduate, Rob Lynch who introduced readings from some of the anthologies authors.
