Whether you’ve already applied and haven’t secured a place, or you’re reconsidering your original choices, UCAS Extra gives you a second chance to find a course that’s right for you, without waiting for Clearing.

What Is UCAS Extra?

UCAS Extra is a unique opportunity for students who applied through UCAS but do not hold any offers. It allows you to apply to one extra course at a time from universities and colleges that still have vacancies, before Clearing opens later in the summer.

Think of it as a reset button – a chance to explore new courses, consider different institutions, or pursue a subject you’re newly passionate about.

Who can use UCAS Extra?

Already applied but not holding any offers?
You’re eligible to apply for a new course through UCAS Extra. There are still plenty of fantastic options available, and you might discover a university that’s an even better fit.

Had a change of heart?
If you’ve changed your mind about your original course or university, UCAS Extra allows you to explore new options without waiting for Clearing.

Other key dates

20th October 2025 – Clearing 2025 closes.

5th June 2025 – Final date to reply to offers if you received all your decisions by 14th May.

30th June 2025 – Applications received after 6 pm will automatically be entered into Clearing.

4th July 2025 – Last date to add a UCAS Extra choice.

5th July 2025 – Clearing 2025 opens.

23rd July 2025 – Final date to reply to offers if you get all your decisions by 17th July.

24th September 2025 – Final date for 2025 UCAS undergraduate applications.
