University Centre Peterborough Student Hosts First Esports Tournament.

13 August 2025

University Centre Peterborough (UCP) recently welcomed gamers from the local community for a fast-paced and action-packed Rocket League Esports Tournament, hosted in the university’s brand-new computer suite.

The free event, open to all ages, brought together players and fans for a day of competitive gaming, with the morning dedicated to thrilling 1v1 matches and the afternoon featuring intense 2v2 battles. The competition concluded with two champions crowned at the end of the day.

As well as the exciting matches, attendees enjoyed free pizza and had the chance to win a prize. For those unable to attend in person, the tournament was also streamed online, ensuring nobody missed out on the action.

The event was organised and hosted by James Warren, a UCP student graduating from the  BSc (Hons) Sports and Exercise Science (Coaching) degree this year. Speaking about his motivation for arranging the tournament, James said:

“The reason I wanted to do this is because I have a background in Esports and in coaching. Recently, the university developed this awesome computer suite, and I wanted to showcase it to the local community and other students so they could come along and have a taster of Esports.”

The event not only celebrated the growing popularity of Esports but also highlighted the cutting-edge facilities available at UCP, offering students unique opportunities to explore competitive gaming and digital industries.
