Who is it for?
This engineering qualification provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the engineering sector.
During the course, you will study mandatory units in control systems engineering, energy engineering, programming for engineers, and an undergraduate major project. You will develop knowledge and undertake a range of projects combined with academic theory, creating highly skilled and motivated individuals who have the opportunity to progress into a broad range of engineering careers.
If you are working within the engineering field or have ambitions of working in this area in a professional, managerial, or technical capacity, then these courses are for you.
A BEng (Hons) provides a nationally recognised qualification (360 credits) offering career progression and professional development for those already in employment, as well as opportunities to progress on to postgraduate study.
The courses at Peterborough College are studied in smaller class sizes compared with other universities; a typical class size is under 20 students.

HND/HTQ qualification in Engineering (General), Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or a Level 5 equivalent, plus GCSE English and maths at grades 4/C or above. The one-year BEng top-up programme is designed to complete the journey to a full degree programme.
When studying this course, we will timetable your lectures into one or two full days a week over two semesters per year (depending on attendance model – fulltime/part time). We are able to offer this convenient timetabling to our students as we are a smaller institution so we can timetable our staff and resources more efficiently.
There are two semesters per year and each semester is up to 15 weeks which includes up to 12 teaching weeks and 3 assessment weeks.
Throughout the duration of your course you will be assessed by the following methods:

We will provide, by the beginning of the first week of each semester, a current module guide with all the information you need for each module, including details of assessment tasks, the deadlines for these tasks, the required format and any relevant guidance.
There may be additional costs for this course which are not covered by the tuition fee.
As the course is timetabled as full days during the week when studied full-time, this also gives you the flexibility to find a work placement, internship or volunteering opportunity which will improve your employability after you graduate.
Many of the students on this course study part-time as they are already employed in an engineering role in Peterborough or the surrounding area and can share their industry experience and knowledge in lectures and seminars.
Grant Webb is a Chartered Engineer and the Course Leader for the HNC/HND/BEng Engineering programmes at University Centre Peterborough. He has taught since September 2009 and joined University Centre Peterborough in December 2012.
His research interests include smart grids and demand response, low-carbon transport and renewable energy integration.
External commitments include being a Visiting Lecturer at Hubei University of Technology, China; an Examiner for Pearson Education; and a Professional Review Interviewer for the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET).
Before teaching, he worked in the industry for 11 years. He had a background in electronics and manufacturing engineering, working for Walkbury Electronics Ltd and Perkins Engines Co Ltd/Caterpillar Inc based in Peterborough.
