BA (Hons) Psychosocial Studies Curriculum Redesign at University Centre Peterborough

16 July 2026

At University Centre Peterborough (UCP), we review and redesign our curriculum every five years. This regular review ensures our degrees remain highly current, intellectually challenging and directly aligned with modern industry expectations.

Following its successful revalidation, we have refreshed the modules to reflect the very latest thinking in both psychology and sociology, expanded the programme’s interdisciplinary boundaries and consolidated content into larger 30-credit modules to allow you to dive much deeper into the topics that matter.

Key Features:

  • Expanded final-year options so you can tailor your degree around your own interests and career goals.
  • Sociology modules are now open as optional choices, giving you a truly collaborative learning experience.
  • Consolidated content into larger modules to allow deeper engagement with key topics.
  • Teaching runs over just two days a week, making it easier to balance your studies with jobs, family, or other commitments.
  • We have moved well beyond the standard essay to offer diverse, real-world assessment methods.
  • Small class sizes ensure a level of individual support that is hard to find elsewhere.

The updated curriculum directly addresses high-priority industry trends by introducing and enhancing specific modules across the programme: https://www.ucp.ac.uk/courses/ba-hons-psychosocial-studies-2/

“This revalidation brings our curriculum right up to date with new modules like Cyberpsychology, Positive Psychology and Psychology in the Criminal Justice System. By introducing more final-year choices and opening up optional Sociology modules, we’ve created a flexible, interdisciplinary experience aligned with what employers are looking for. Best of all, teaching is scheduled over just two days a week to fit around your commitments.” – Claire Bowes, Course Leader, BA (Hons) Psychosocial Studies

“Our new Sociology modules explore questions of justice, the future of care and how big tech, social media and AI are reshaping our lives. We have moved well beyond the standard essay for assessments and offer genuine room to shape the degree around your own interests. With classes running two days a week and small class sizes, the course fits around your life and offers a rare level of support.” – Paul Wilks, Course Leader, BA (Hons) Sociology
