Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
HND/HTQ qualification in Engineering (General), Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or a Level 5 equivalent, plus GCSE English and maths at grades 4/C or above. The one-year BEng top-up programme is designed to complete the journey to a full degree programme.
When studying this course, we will timetable your lectures into one or two full days a week over two semesters per year (depending on attendance model – fulltime/part time). We are able to offer this convenient timetable to our students as we are a smaller institution so we can timetable our staff and resources more efficiently.
There are two semesters per year and each semester is up to 15 weeks which includes up to 12 teaching weeks and 3 assessment weeks.
Throughout the duration of your course you will be assessed by the following methods:
75% Coursework
25% Examinations
We will provide, by the beginning of the first week of each semester, a current module guide with all the information you need for each module, including details of assessment tasks, the deadlines for these tasks, the required format and any relevant guidance.
There may be additional costs for this course which are not covered by the tuition fee.
As the course is timetabled as full days during the week when studied full-time, this also gives you the flexibility to find a work placement, internship or volunteering opportunity which will improve your employability after you graduate.
Many of the students on this course study part-time as they are already employed in an engineering role in Peterborough or the surrounding area and can share their industry experience and knowledge in lectures and seminars.
Grant Webb is a Chartered Engineer and the Course Leader for the HNC/HND/BEng Engineering programmes at University Centre Peterborough. He has taught since September 2009 and joined University Centre Peterborough in December 2012.
His research interests include smart grids and demand response, low-carbon transport and renewable energy integration.
External commitments include being a Visiting Lecturer at Hubei University of Technology, China; an Examiner for Pearson Education; and a Professional Review Interviewer for the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET).
Before teaching, he worked in the industry for 11 years. He had a background in electronics and manufacturing engineering, working for Walkbury Electronics Ltd and Perkins Engines Co Ltd/Caterpillar Inc based in Peterborough.

The tuition fees for full-time undergraduate students will be £8,500 per year, which is lower compared with many other universities.
Fees for part-time study are pro-rata depending on the number of credits you are studying (i.e. 90 credits per year will be 75% of the tuition fee).
