What can this course lead to?

The programme is designed to enable you to progress to relevant Sport Science degree pathways at Level 5 and Level 6. Continuation on these pathways will allow you to continue your studies and complete a full degree.

Who is it for?

This course will lay the foundations of learning by providing a specialised introduction to coaching in the UK landscape and Sport Science within the wider sector. This will develop and strengthen core skills while providing the qualities necessary for academic progression or employability. Students will gain a wide range of coaching knowledge linked to practical skills gained through research, independent study, directed study and workplace scenarios.

You will be competent in a range of subject-specific skills as well as general skills and qualities relevant to key areas in Sport and Exercise Science. These scientific methods are explored within a specialised laboratory environment utilising the latest technology and analytical equipment in a small, friendly and supportive setting.

Throughout your studies you will have the opportunity to gain significant experience in the sports industry via our partnerships with organisations such as Peterborough United Football Club, Peterborough Rowing Club and a variety of educational institutions. On completion of this course, you will have sound knowledge of the concepts of coaching.

Employability, support, and progression are key factors of studying with us at University Centre Peterborough. With this particular course there is the opportunity to gain a bursary of up to £1000 to spend toward industry qualifications. The timetable is typically two days a week, allowing time for you to work in the sector while studying.

We regularly invite guest speakers to deliver sessions and engage with students about their experiences and emerging themes within the industry. Previous guest speakers within our Sports courses include:

This qualification is recognised by University Centre Peterborough as meeting admission requirements to our relevant Sport Science degree pathways onto Level 5 and Level 6. Continuation onto these pathways will allow you to continue your studies with us and complete a full degree.

Each module is worth 15 credits.

You must meet the following entry requirements:

5 GCSE grades C/4 or above, including English and Maths and 48 UCAS points, which should be from a related subject in one of the following:

  • A Levels that demonstrate a strong performance in more than one subject.
  • BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Computing, Business or Creative Media Production
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • Access to Higher Education Diploma
  • Related work experience
  • Overseas qualifications are judged to be equivalent to the above
