Alumni return to UCP for Annual Humanities and Social Science Conference
Students from Psychosocial Studies, Sociology, Criminology, English Literature, Archaeology, Media and Journalism degree programmes, were invited to present their dissertations and gain feedback from their peers and industry experts at University Centre Peteborough’s annual Humanities and Social Science Conference.
Students were provided the opportunity to present in an academic setting whilst the audience were inspired by the passionate and knowledgeable presentations covering a wide range of topics. Students were also able to utilise peer and panel feedback prior to submission of their dissertations.
Course Leader Psychosocial Studies BA (Hons), Claire Bowes said,
‘Our 10th annual Arts, Humanities, and Social Science Conference was a resounding success. Unlike conferences that concentrate on narrowly focused topics within a single field, this interdisciplinary event brought together diverse perspectives from different disciplines.
Our students received expert feedback on their ongoing dissertations from panel members representing institutions like the University of Hertfordshire, University of Westminster, University of Leicester, University of Nottingham, Open University, Arden University, College of West Anglia, DASV Partnership – Cambs County Council, Peterborough City Council, Peterborough Racial Equality Council, St Neots Town Council, and Safe Soulmates’
Amongst the expert panels were Social Science Alumni, Parvinder Wahiwala, Jamella Leadbitter, Hannah Bell, Tabitha Cook and Leonie Coote.
Parvinder said, “I feel indebted to University Centre Peterborough for the support I received whilst studying here. The lecturers went beyond their roles, providing guidance and encouragement that helped me navigate my studies while raising four young children. Today, I’m pursuing my Masters degree at the University of Cambridge, focusing on Sikh women and inter-generational issues. It’s a privilege to give back to University Centre Peterborough and support its students, just as they supported me on my journey.”
The conference closed with an award ceremony with students taking home People’s Choice and Panel Choice Awards.
