Following the morning’s celebrations, the focus shifted in the afternoon to career pathways as industry professionals from across the NHS, local councils and the justice sector returned to University Centre Peterborough for the second Annual Social Science Alumni Networking Event.

The afternoon session brought together a diverse cohort of UCP graduates alongside current students to discuss the evolving landscape of social science careers and the vital role these professions play in the local community. The event featured a series of inspiring alumni talks, where former students shared their personal career trajectories and reflected on how their academic foundations at UCP directly prepared them for their high-impact roles. Attendees had the opportunity to exchange industry insights, discuss regional challenges and share active workforce opportunities to help recent and upcoming graduates break into competitive fields.

A key highlight of the day was an interactive Q&A session, which allowed current Social Science undergraduates to quiz the alumni panel on navigating life after university, mastering interview processes and identifying entry-level pathways within public and third-sector organisations.

Claire Bowes, Curriculum Leader for Psychology, said: “It has been an amazing, inspirational day of connection. We were able to celebrate our current students’ success to end the year on a massive high, while also welcoming back our alumni. Hearing their life stories and seeing where they are now is incredibly rewarding, and it demonstrates the brilliant futures available to our current students.”
