Forensic Investigation Graduate Secures Role As Volume Crime Scene Examiner with Cambridgeshire Constabulary

Amy Drake, BSc (Hons) Forensic Investigation graduate of University Centre Peterborough (UCP), part of Inspire Education Group (IEG), has secured a position as a Volume Crime Scene Examiner with Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

In her new role, Amy will be expected to attend crime scenes to analyse and establish how a crime has occurred. Recovering a range of evidence, including friction ridge detail, DNA material and footwear marks, Amy will call upon the knowledge and experience gained during her studies at University Centre Peterborough.

“I had a good experience of academic support at UCP”, Amy shared. “I chose to attend UCP because class sizes were small, and I’m so glad I did because I was able to get so much support. Being dyslexic, my lecturers took the time to go through course content section-by-section, to help me to understand. I often received 1-2-1 feedback, enabling me to really improve the quality of my work, which showed in my results”.

“I always enjoyed the practical sessions throughout my time at UCP, as they were relevant to our theory classes, and always fun. Most activities were group-based, so we were able to we were able to combine working styles and solidify our knowledge, making it easier to complete out dissertations”, Amy commented. “My most memorable moment of the course was celebrating with my peers after our final exam. The sense of achievement we shared was incredible. We’d all made it to the final chapter!”

Amy is currently undertaking 14 weeks specialist training to develop her ability to carry out crime scene processing and evidence recovery process. “The Forensic Investigation course is so relevant to what I’m doing now!”, Amy shared. “It provided me with a good basis of most of the techniques that I will definitely be using day-to-day”. Amy continued, “The lecturers and support that UCP offered was key to my success. Being taught by people who had worked in industry and could share their knowledge was invaluable. Hearing about how they has used certain techniques in the past provided a sense of realism to the course”.

When asked what advice she would give to anyone considering studying at University Centre Peterborough, Amy shared, “If like me, you think a bigger university will be too daunting, then definitely consider UCP, as the small class sizes helped me no end. I am so glad that I chose UCP, because I was able to really get to know my peers and my lecturers, which eased my nerves about studying and created a much more relaxed learning environment.
