Former Archbishop, Lord Williams Inspires the Next Generation at University Centre Peterborough
The Peterborough Cultural Alliance (PCA) recently hosted an insightful workshop for young people aged 14-25 with Lord Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury.
Held at University Centre Peterborough (UCP), this event was part of the PCA’s Cultural Conversations Programme, which aims to inspire the next generation of cultural and arts leaders. The event showcased the University Peterborough’s commitment to fostering a vibrant cultural scene.
During the workshop, Lord Williams engaged participants in thought-provoking discussions about the power of culture and the arts, and the importance of owning one’s narrative. The group explored various themes, including identity, creativity, and the role of culture and the arts in shaping communities. The event is an example of the types of meaningful initiatives hosted by universities in Peterborough, contributing to the city’s growing reputation as a hub for culture and education.
Liz Knight, Academic Director of University Centre Peterborough (UCP), was honoured to have the event on the Peterborough university campus. “It was a privilege to welcome Lord Rowan Williams and the PCA to our campus,” she said. “Events like this offer a unique chance for young people to engage with thought leaders and explore the profound influence of culture and the arts. We are proud to support initiatives that encourage critical thinking and empower the next generation of cultural and arts leaders.”
The PCA hopes that this workshop will encourage young people to become more involved in their local cultural and arts scene and to actively contribute to shaping the future of Peterborough. The organisation plans to continue offering similar events and initiatives to foster a vibrant and inclusive cultural and arts community.
