Hampton College Sport Students Visit University Centre Peterborough for Immersive Subject Day

10 March 2026

University Centre Peterborough recently hosted Year 12 and 13 Sport students from Hampton College for a comprehensive day of practical workshops and Higher Education tasters.

The visit provided the students with direct access to University Centre Peterborough’s specialist facilities and the opportunity to learn from both faculty experts and current undergraduates.

The agenda was designed to showcase the diverse elements of Sports Science and Coaching, covering four key areas:

Practical Coaching Sessions: Delivered by University Centre Peterborough First-Year students, these sessions allowed the visitors to participate in drills while undergraduates applied their coaching theory in a real-world setting.

Gym and Lab-based Fitness Testing: Held in the Gym and Higher Education Lab, this session was delivered by Antony Coombe. Students explored the technical methods used to measure and analyse athletic performance.

Exercise Prescription: Delivered by Laura College in the Fitness Studio, this session focused on the professional application of designing specific exercise programmes.

Sport Psychology Workshop: In a University Centre Peterborough classroom, Aaron Shaheed delivered a session on Arousal and Anxiety, exploring how psychological states impact sporting performance.

By moving between the labs, the fitness studio and the classroom, the Hampton College students gained insight into the Higher Education standards and practical application required at a Degree level. The event highlighted the collaborative environment at University Centre Peterborough, specifically through the integration of First-Year degree students in the delivery of the coaching sessions.
