The All-New, Education Studies Degree at University Centre Peterborough

University Centre Peterborough, part of Inspire Education Group is proud to launch a new and updated Education Studies degree validated by Lincoln Bishop University.

The updated curriculum offers students greater flexibility by combining early years and primary pathways into a broad-based approach covering the full 0–19 age range.

Key features:

  • Students can tailor assignments to their specific interests.
  • The vocational programme is built entirely around coursework.
  • Includes a 12-hour weekly placement that serves as a real-world laboratory to test practical interventions.
  • Provides a seamless progression route into postgraduate teacher training (PGCE/QTS), specialist SEND or safeguarding roles and senior institutional leadership.

The new curriculum directly addresses regional workforce demands and high-priority education trends by introducing and enhancing specific modules across the programme. 

Foundation Degree (Level 4 & 5) Modules

  • Child Development (30 Credits): Connects major developmental frameworks with modern psychological and educational challenges.
  • Curriculum and Context (30 Credits): Replaces the previous rigid curriculum tracking to explore the evolution of statutory frameworks and how social contexts shape delivery.
  • Global Perspectives (30 Credits): Investigates diverse philosophical, sociological and pedagogical models from around the world.
  • Reflective and Professional Practice (30 Credits): Weaves academic writing, digital research and personal reflection into placement experiences.
  • Safeguarding & Wellbeing (30 Credits): Aligns with industry needs by focusing heavily on trauma-informed care, safety and multi-agency teamwork strategies.
  • Supporting Individual Needs (30 Credits): Addresses the regional shortage of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) experts by teaching proactive, evidence-based inclusion strategies to support neurodiversity.
  • Leadership & Management (30 Credits): Focuses on strategic communication, multi-agency dynamics and professional resilience needed for modern workplace leaders.
  • Childhood in a Social Context (30 Credits): Examines how political, social and economic macro-systems impact modern families and children.

Level 6 (Year 3 / Top-Up Route) Modules

  • Creativity in Educational Practice (30 Credits): Encourages students to design highly creative, innovative classroom delivery spaces and challenge traditional learning assumptions.
  • Contemporary Issues (30 Credits): Aligns with cutting-edge industry standards by covering digital fluency, AI literacy (learning to engage ethically with AI tools), decolonisation and environmental sustainability.
  • Social Justice: Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (30 Credits): Focuses critically on challenging structural biases and advocating for equality and systemic inclusivity.
  • Undergraduate Major Project (30 Credits): A year-long independent research project designed to provide tangible value back to the student’s real-world educational setting.
