University Centre Peterborough in the Spotlight: Latest Issue of ‘The Moment’ Magazine Celebrates Our Impact
University Centre Peterborough is proud to be featured extensively in the March 2026 edition (Issue 86) of The Moment Magazine. From crowning the city’s newest literary voice to unveiling its first-ever postgraduate qualification, the issue highlights University Centre Peterborough’s central role in the community’s cultural and academic future.
As Peterborough continues to grow as a hub for innovation and heritage, The Moment captures how University Centre Peterborough is empowering the next generation of leaders, creatives and professionals.
A centerpiece of this month’s issue is an in-depth, multi-page feature titled “A Passion for Prose and Poetry,” which spotlights our brand-new MA in Creative Writing, the first of its kind in the region.
Course Leader Andrew McDonnell shares his vision for the program, emphasising that the course is designed to enable graduates to “flourish in a competitive field.” Andrew, who brings 25 years of teaching experience and his own success as a published poet and author discusses the importance of inclusivity. The feature explores how the course balances the “literary craft” with practical industry skills, covering everything from traditional publishing and e-publishing to the ethical adaptation of AI in writing.
Another highlight in this month’s issue is the coverage of the 2026 Peterborough Poet Laureate final, which was proudly hosted at the University Centre Peterborough campus. In partnership with the Syntax Poetry Collective, University Centre Peterborough provided the stage for nine finalists to perform on the theme of “Welcome.”
The magazine celebrates the crowning of Hilary Steele as the new Poet Laureate. By hosting this prestigious competition, now in its 28th year, University Centre Peterborough continues to cement itself as the civic heart of the city’s spoken word and literary scene.
In a lead feature titled “Handmade Wings,” the magazine explores why the “City of Culture” conversation remains vital for Peterborough. University Centre Peterborough is recognized as a key player in this dialogue. By providing the academic foundation for creative industries, we are helping the region find its “true voice” and ensuring that Peterborough is, as the magazine notes, “center stage” in its own history.
The magazine also highlights University Centre Peterborough’s success in connecting education with industry. This follows our recent event where we welcomed back alumni Alex Aldrich, a successful Digital PR freelancer. Alex met with our Journalism and Digital Marketing students to share a “tangible roadmap” for professional success. The Moment reflects this spirit of aspiration, showcasing how University Centre Peterborough students are supported from their initial undergraduate studies through to high-level honors degrees.
As University Centre Peterborough continues to expand its academic and cultural reach, the mission remains clear, to be the catalyst for growth in the city we call home. University Centre Peterborough is more than just a place of study, it is the heartbeat of Peterborough’s professional and creative evolution.
