University Centre Peterborough Students Explore Stencil Design with Metal Culture

4 November 2025

University Centre Peterborough (UCP) students recently took part in an engaging workshop with Metal Culture, an arts organisation based in Peterborough that works to connect creativity, community and sustainability.

The session introduced students to the process of stencil design, encouraging them to experiment with shape, texture and pattern to create original visuals that could later be transferred onto fabric. Led by the team at Metal, the workshop offered a hands-on opportunity to explore how design principles can move beyond the screen and into physical, creative applications.

Students were guided through each stage, from concept development to testing their designs, exploring how stenciling can serve as a creative technique that supports sustainable design practices. The activity formed part of Metal’s wider mission to support emerging artists and designers, offering spaces for experimentation, collaboration and cultural exchange within the city.

This ongoing partnership between Metal Culture and UCP continues to provide students with valuable industry insight and creative freedom, helping them develop the confidence and skills to bring their ideas to life in innovative ways.

A big thank you to Metal Culture for hosting another inspiring and collaborative workshop.
