Award-Winning UCP Graduate Champions the Future of British Manufacturing on National Manufacturing Day 

To mark National Manufacturing Day, University Centre Peterborough is celebrating the remarkable achievements of HNC Mechanical Engineering graduate Holly Haines. Her perfect academic record highlights the vital role higher education plays in developing the UK’s next generation of engineering talent. 

Following her recent graduation at Peterborough Cathedral, Holly’s journey stands out as a benchmark for technical excellence. Completing her HNC in Mechanical Engineering, she achieved Distinctions in every single assignment while balancing the demands of full-time employment. 

Her exceptional academic record and workplace dedication previously earned her the Industry Impact Award in Engineering and Manufacturing at the Inspire Education Student Awards earlier this year. 

Holly’s success comes at a pivotal moment for British industry, as manufacturers across the country call for skilled, resilient graduates to bridge the technical skills gap and drive innovation in advanced manufacturing. 

“Completing my HNC with straight Distinctions was challenging at times, but my results show how committed I have been. Engineering can feel daunting at first, especially if you find yourself as the only female in the room. But I quickly realised I was welcomed, supported, respected and fully capable. To any women considering engineering, I would say don’t let initial far stop you, the industry needs your perspective, creativity and resilience.’ 

Holly’s tutor, Peter Shanley said: “Holly’s work was always to a very high standard, she constantly applied herself and remained highly motivated throughout the course. She was never afraid to ask questions and showed a genuine drive to succeed, which is precisely why she will thrive within the industry.”

With her HNC completed, Holly is now actively seeking a Degree Apprenticeship to combine hands-on workplace innovation with continued higher education.
