4 April 2024

HND Animal Management (Animal Behaviour and Welfare) graduate of University Centre Peterborough (UCP) (Stamford campus), Rebecca Windall, has advanced to the position of Animal Care Assistant at RSPCA Newbrook Farm: Animal Centre, Hospital, and Education Centre.

Graduating in 2018, Rebecca benefitted from the guidance of seasoned lecturers with a wealth of industry experience, learning about animal anatomy, nutrition and conservation. “I really enjoyed the mix of topics”, Rebecca shared. “The course covers everything to prepare you for working with animals. I especially enjoyed learning about the physiology of exotic species”.

Having embarked on a voluntary placement at locally-based Hamerton Zoo Park during her studies, Rebecca gained valuable experience of working with rare and endangered animals. “My advice to anyone pursuing a career in the animal care industry would be to take advantage of every opportunity! Really get stuck into volunteering, as you learn so much, and it can help you to identify what you’re really passionate about”, Rebecca shared.

Upon completion of the course, Rebecca secured a position at an animal research laboratory in central London. “I learnt about advances in the science, research and medical knowledge of animals”, Rebecca explained. “I then progressed to employment at RSPCA Blackberry Farm Animal Centre in Aylesbury, which really kickstarted my career in animal rescue”. Getting married and relocating to Birmingham, Rebecca then deepened her knowledge at rehoming and dog rescue charity, Dogs Trust.

Rebecca has since returned to the RSPCA, having secured a role at the Newbrook Farm Animal Centre and Hospital. In 2023 alone, the shelter rehomed 67 dogs, 471 cats and 199 other animals. “Finding loving homes for animals is an incredibly rewarding job”, Rebecca explained. “One of the rescue dogs has even become a cherished member of my own family! It’s great to see rescued animals receive the care they deserve”.

Inspire Education Group wishes Rebecca the best of luck in her future career.
